The Anesthesia Techician prepares anesthesia instruments, equipment, supplies, and drugs for use throughout the Department of Surgery.Job tasks and responsibilites include:Interfaces with all anesthesia related sales representatives to evaluate equipment and products.carts to insure that all medications are in-date.Sets up and checks anesthesia machines daily to assure good working conditions.Attends to the requests of the anesthesiologists throughout the day.Performs cleaning and sterilizing functions as necessary during the day to ensure there will be an adequate supply of items.Communicates equipment malfunctions to appropriate Bio-Med Technicians for repair and contacts appropriate companies if an anesthesia machine malfunctions.Sets up IV’s, Arterial line and other invasive lines as needed in preparation for specific cases.Communicates supply needs to the supply coordinator so supplies can be ordered in a timely manner. Checks to see if adequate and appropriate supplies are in stock.Cleans rooms between cases by changing anesthesia circuits and suctions and preparing a clean area for the following case. Assists with OR assistant with room turnovers.Assists with placement of specialty lines, specialty procedures and is available to assist with induction.Stocks appropriate levels of supplies and equipment in each room to adequately run cases each day.Stocks all anesthesia specialty carts.Starts intermittent IV locks as per physician orders. Hospital IV certification course must be completed prior to starting intermittent IV locks.Performs other duties as may be assigned.Follows guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors and co-workers and if classified as a category I or II employee under OSHA regulations, adheres to OSHA standards by wearing personal protective equipment, following universal precautions and being knowledgeable about blood borne pathogens.Job qualifications include:Minimum one year of experience as an Anesthesia Tech preferred.Related certifications in anesthesia equipment preferred.Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required.Able to work in a fast-paced environment.Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching and lifting of 25 lbs.Knowledgeable in the use, functions, maintenance and storage or hospital equipment preferred.
