Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The! base performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10 and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities include skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
A list of eligible candidates is being established and may be used to fill multiple vacancies for a period of 12 months (or more). Types of appointments may include: Full time permanent positions; OR full time term positions Not-to-Exceed 13 months, with extension possible; OR full time temporary positions not to exceed 1 year, with a 1 year extension possible. Term and Temporary appointments made from this register may be converted to permanent without further competition.

As a Boiler Plant Operator, WG-5402-10, you will be responsible to operate boilers, that produce steam or high temperature hot water, and to perform preventive maintenance and various operational repairs on them. You will also:
- Start, operate, adjust, and stop single or multiple fuel power boilers fueled by heating oil or natural gas or a combination of these fuels and auxiliary pollution control and other equipment in a steam or high temperature hot water boiler plant.
- Perform various operational repai! rs and preventative maintenance on boiler, auxiliary, and pollution con! trol equipment.
- Install, modify, overhaul, repair, and maintain a variety of complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associate auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
- Collect water samples and tests feed water, boiler water, and condensate.
- Utilize safety practices, rules, regulations and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
To qualify for this position a specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence of experience, which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your on-line resume. PHYSICAL EFFORT : Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers and support equipment; i.e., auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long period of walking, standing, climbing, ending and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries boiler parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 25! pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. !
WORKING CONDITIONS : Employee normally works indoors. Occasionally works outside for short periods. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions and works on catwalks and ladders. Employee is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil and fumes in the work area. Subject to cuts and abrasions from use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, steam, and contact with pipes and boilers.
