Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Store Manager general store support employees provide World Class Customer Service to customers by providing support to the operations of the store and ensuring that all assigned tasks are performed with great attention to detail and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Cashiering duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing World Class Customer Service by:
- Remembering that waiting on customers at the r! egister is always your priority;
- Greeting the customer c! oming into the store;
- Before ringing up the sale asking the customer if he/she has found everything he/she was looking for;
- Paying attention to the customer’s cues and body language which will alert you to pursue further inquiry into how you can fully meet the customer’s needs;
- Monitoring customer wait time and requesting additional cashier help as needed
- Scanning the customer’s purchases quickly and accurately;
- Handling the money properly when received from the customer and making change to the customer accurately;
- Ensuring all customer receive appropriate assistance such as carry outs;
- Approaching customer service from a full store view by:
- Seeing everything you do from the eyes of the customer;
- Learning the location of products in all the departments so that you are able to direct the customers;
- Keeping the register area neat and orderly; straightening display area around the check stands;
- Keeping th! e shelves and counters in the register area neat and orderly and well stocked.
- Creating a positive last impression by:
- Thanking the customer courteously for their business;
- Offering free magazines to all customer advertising upcoming free seminars and asking if they would like to be added to our mailing list.
- Satisfying and/or communicating customer complaints to the manager.
- Answering the telephone following company policies and procedures.
Additional duties that are required when assigned as primary cashier on a given shift:
- Calling stores for special order products to be transferred, if they have them;
- Checking special orders. Take out old ones to be recalled or restocked;
- Grinding almond butter and peanut butter, as assigned;
- Putting out more magazines;
- Putting together literature packets;
- All other duties as assigned
Store Support (Grocery/Produce/Bulk/Vitamin/Body Care):
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for tagging, including:
hanging price tags as they occur;
hanging sales signs;
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for facing, including deep facing;
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for rotating, including:
checking for short-dated product and what to do if product comes in with a short date;
ensuring that product with the shortest expiration date is in the front, followed by the next date, etc. If two or more rows, product with the shortest expiration date is in the front on a! ll rows followed by the next date, etc;
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for cleanliness, including ensuring that backstock areas are neat organized and cleaned regularly;
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for stocking, including the proper use of backstock tags
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for backstock, including:
ensuring that no product is in backstock without being stocked in the front;
backstock is neat, organized and labeled per company standards;
backstock area is cleaned regularly
- Following company policies, procedures and standards for returns.
- All other assigned duties.
Product Knowledge:
- Enhance job skills and the ability to provide World Class Customer Service by increasing product knowledge
- Learn the locations of products in the store
- Store staff is encouraged to attend in-store trainings and seminars
- Althou! gh this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are ! expected to be “hands on†and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous retail experience in a grocery or retail environment; natural foods background a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to stay focused on the task at hand.
- Sense of urgency when performing daily tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs, repetitive lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs.
- Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion.
- Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, twist, push and pull on a regular basis.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb as needed.
- Must be able to reach overhead and away from the body.
- Must be able to stand for at least 90% of the time.
- Must be able to walk for at least 90% of ! the time.
