Job Description:

This position is responsible for overall operations and day to day management of system-wide Child Life operations. The Child Life Services Manager works in partnership with facility management and clinical partners to ensure the provision of optimal Child Life service for patients and families.

  • Shift Details: Monday - Friday. (9:00am - 5:00pm)
    Salaried / Exempt position, no weekends or holiday coverage required

  • Department: Child Life Department at Primary Children's Hospital


Scope

Direct oversight of Child Life department, budget and FTEs at Primary Children's Hospital, McKay-Dee Hospital, Utah Valley Hospital, American Fork Hospital, Primary Children's Lehi and Dixie Regional Medical Center. Responsible for Child Life program development at the system level.

Job Essentials

  • Develops program direction for Child Life services based on proven standards of care, collaboration and needs assessment across facilities.
  • Ensures consistent implementation and execution of applicable Child Life programs across multiple facilities and service lines.
  • Advances clinical excellence through analysis of defined service metrics, quality improvement efforts, clinical supervision, timely feedback, and staff development.
  • Ensures staff incorporate evidence-based practice into all aspects of care and service delivery model. Continually monitors respected organizations with similar Child Life services for best practices.
  • Responsible for managing staff performance including recruiting and selection, onboarding, training, mentoring, evaluating, and corrective action.
  • Responsible for creating a department culture of shared decision-making, effective communication, readiness to change, mentoring, and continuous professional learning.
  • Accountable for developing and managing of system-wide annual capital, operating and labor budgets for Child Life services. Assures that appropriate resources, supplies, space, equipment and number of staff and volunteers are allocated to meet patient needs.
  • Oversees applicable internship and/or fellowship programs as outlined by the national Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Current professional certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS).
  • Maintain an active affiliation with the national Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).
  • Five years of clinical experience in Child Life.
  • Demonstrated track record of effective communication skills in person, via phone, and in writing.
  • Program and initiative development, promotion, execution, and assessment (verified through references).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with all stakeholders including staff, administration, patients, families, physicians, clinicians, department leaders, and volunteers.
  • Proficient and effective use of computers including email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation creation.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Human Development, Psychology or Child Development.
  • Master's degree in Child Life, MBA, or MHA.
  • Prior healthcare/hospital experience in a pediatric facility.
  • Prior supervisory/leadership experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
  • Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, including manipulating paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$43.24 - $66.74
