SUMMARY:
Support development of new analysis methods for carbon fiber and composite materials. Support other developmental and production programs as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSILITIES:
Support development of new chemical and physical analysis methods for analysis of carbon fiber and downstream composite materials
Support implementation of developed methods and techniques into developmental and production carbon fiber programs
Support other departmental programs as required, including as-needed backup support/operation of R&T pilot facilities
Provide Plant and Customer support as requested
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in a scientific or technical field from a four-year college or university with direct laboratory experience in a research environment, or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with five to ten years of significant laboratory experience in a research environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and scientific journals, general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, technical methods, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Ability to demonstrate and independently apply college-level chemical knowledge and techniques. Ability to develop and implement analysis techniques under direction of R&T Staff Scientist.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to independently apply and implement mathematical methods for interpretation and manipulation of analytical data. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply scientific methods and judgment to completion of assignments or directions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to deal with problems involving tangible and intangible factors in standardized and non-standardized assignments and situations.

SAFETY:
Employee must work and conduct him herself in a safe manner within an office or production environment. Employee must meet regulatory and company safety and health objectives outlined and administered by the Safety department. Employee must attend and contribute to scheduled company safety training meetings. Employee must be alert and aware of potential safety hazards to include OSHA and Environmental violations. Employee must be willing to use and wear all proper safety equipment and clothing in accordance with particular safety situations at hand. Employee must obey all safety precautions found in the office and work area. The employee must promote safety awareness through monthly safety meetings and group discussions. Employee must participate and conduct safety analysis and observations for all new and modified equipment and Fiber processes. Employee must contribute to an accident/injury free workplace by demonstrating a thorough working knowledge of regulations, procedures and controls related to safety.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
Employee must work and conduct him/herself in an environmentally conscious manner within an office or production setting. Employee is required to meet regulatory and company environmental objectives outlined and administered by the Environmental Department and Business Management. Employee must attend and contribute to scheduled company environmental training classes and meetings. Employee must be alert and aware of potential Environmental violations and/or issues and communicate those potential environmental issues to Business Management and the Environmental Department. Employee must immediately report the release of any chemical compound to the air, ground, or water system unless the discharge has been pre-approved by the Environmental Engineer. Employee must obey all environmental standards and procedures and promote environmental awareness through monthly meetings and group discussions. Employee must comply to and support the HEXCEL Salt Lake City ISO 1400I Environmental Management System and actively contribute to an environmental violation/excursion free workplace by demonstrating a thorough working knowledge of requirements, standards, procedures and controls related to environmental.
