The Gift Planning Unit is comprised of over 40 field-based Gift Planning Officers seeking to establish the American Red Cross as the charity of ch! oice for planned gifts in support of any component of our mission. We are currently seeking a GPO to be based in our Salt Lake City office. The GPO is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors for planned gifts and stewarding Legacy Society members. The GPO develops and implements a plan for gift planning across Iowa and Utah. The GPO reports to the Director of Gift Planning for the Great Lakes Division and works closely with regional development teams and leadership. This individual also collaborates with fellow GPOs to promote a consistent approach to gift planning across the country.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs, attitudes, cultural perspectives and asset profile of donors and volunteers, skill at presenting complex information to groups of all sizes, well-refined organizational skills, initiative and creativity.
Engage with chapter, regional and divisional leadership on strategic planning relate! d to gift planning.
Develop and implement an annual w! ork plan to increase the volume of known bequest expectancies, life income gifts and other planned and current gifts to maximize giving to the American Red Cross.
Conduct face-to-face visits with donors, volunteers and other Red Cross friends.
Work proactively and collaboratively with regional relationship managers to fully integrate gift planning into the overall fundraising strategy for Red Cross donors/prospects by providing in-house educational programs and conducting joint visits.
Build and actively manage a significant portfolio of gift planning donors/prospects; develop and implement a cultivation and solicitation strategy for each assigned prospect.
Develop a network of allied professionals (attorneys, accountants, financial advisors).
Maintain current records and metrics for portfolio, plan, and activities in data management software.
Build membership and interest in the Legacy Society, including periodic commun! ications and recognition events.
Provide activity reports to management as requested.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required with a master's degree (or other related professional accreditation, e.g., CPA, CFP, etc.) preferred.
Five or more years experience with demonstrated success in soliciting and closing major or planned gifts and/or relevant financial, estate and/or philanthropic planning, law, trust administration or non-profit experience, including in-depth knowledge of federal tax law and regulations that govern charitable giving.
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with board members, donors and donor advisors, volunteers and staff at all levels.
Knowledge of planned giving software such as PGCalc or Crescendo and fundraising database software such as Raisers' Edge; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
! Desire and ability to learn multiple components of gift planning, such! as identifying, understanding, and remaining current with financial planning, estate planning, legal, and tax issues related to charitable giving.
Willingness to travel for donor visits, periodic GPO conferences, and regional/national gift planning seminars and training programs.
