DUTIES:
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) performs duties for the Women Veterans Program in the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System (VHASLCHCS) and is under the administrative supervision of the Nurse Manag! er- Specialty Care. The primary program support responsibility for this position involves the oversight of scheduling and processing of results for all mammograms from the main Salt Lake City facility and surrounding Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). Also assists with other aspects of the Women Veterans Clinic operations, including: coordination of data management; performance improvement and quality initiatives; provides back-up support for clinic scheduling duties; and provides intermittent coverage of basic patient care activities.

Works closely with the Women Veterans Program Manager, the WomenÂ's Clinic Medical Director, primary and specialty care providers, nursing staff and other members of the care team within the facility, surrounding CBOCs and community agencies to plan for and support processes related to Women Veterans health.

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday; 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED! :
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and Education.

(1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or

(2) Education. One year above high school; or

(3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.

To qualify for this position, applican! ts must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must possess 1 full year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Support Assistant GS-0

position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes clerical experience in a medical setting (i.e. relays incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages, receives and directs patients, keeps time and attendance records, and schedules appointments), obtaining patient information, and providing information regarding unit, clinic and hospital policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, and sta! ff. Specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-0

2. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels.

3. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care.

4. Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment.
5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.

6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.
