Comparative International Sociology
University of Utah. The Department of Sociology i! nvites applications for two faculty positions, one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor and one tenure-track or tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor. We seek sociologists who will contribute to the departmentâs specialty in Comparative International Sociology (CIS). A description of the area is available at

. Candidates for the Assistant Professor position should have earned a PhD in Sociology no later than summer 2014. Successful applicants will have a strong record of, or clear potential for, success in research; this includes having a well-developed research agenda and the ability or potential to obtain extramural funding. All research areas with a general comparativeand international orientation will be considered, although priority will be given to candidates whose areas of expertise complement our existing strengths of comparative-international research in environmental! sociology, sociology of gender, political economy, and politi! cal sociology. While the CIS program ensures that its doctoral students are trained in state-of-the-art quantitative methods, we embrace methodological pluralism and welcome applicants whose research employs any type of research methodology. Applicants should be prepared to contribute to the departmentâs teaching mission at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Sociology program features two integrated research foci, Comparative International Sociology and Population and Health, and awards the BS/BA, MA, Master of Statistics, and PhD, with about 500 undergraduate majors and a well-regarded doctoral program. Academic Analytics recently ranked the department 30th among sociology departments at public comprehensive univ! ersities in the United States, and the University of Utah is ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world according to the 2011 Academic Ranking of World Universities. The University is situated in a growing metropolitan area of 1.3 million and abuts the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain Range.
